BCRC Slammers @ Frosty Hollow Freeze

It was the Home Opener for the Frosty Hollow Freeze as they welcomed the BCRC Slammers to town on a somewhat chilly day. The winner of today would take control of first place in the division.

 

The Home Opener festivities were taking place as the players warmed up on the playing courts. The fans made their way to their seats and were set up shop for the action.

 

The Freeze put out their lineup looking to protect their home courts. 

 

Position 1 Singles: Anish Mhatre

Position 2 Singles: Ian Blackman

 

Position 1 Doubles Pair:

Eric Ulzinow / Carroll Gau

 

Position 2 Doubles Pair:

Bob Hawley / John Sisti

 

Position 3 Doubles Pair:

Dmitry Belov / Lance Shaffer

 

With a good crowd on hand, the Slammers took a 5-0 lead which calmed some of the Home Opener excitement. The Freeze answered the bell when Anish Mhatre rang in 5 points to tie things up. The Slammers poked back with 4 more points to make the score 9-5. The intensity was picking up in the crowd and on the courts with both teams giving it their all on each play. Things were getting tense but then Ian Blackman came through with 4 points to tie it all up at 9-9. Chants from both the home and away crowd were taking over the outdoor stadium courts which made this a fun atmosphere and a must watch! It had a slight college football feel to it with the weather and the team passion in the stands! It has been a back and forth day with no team being able to keep their lead.

With the score tied, it all came down to a doubles court. Dmitry Belov and Lance Shaffer came in as the closers to try to secure a Home Opener victory. They did exactly that! The cheers went through the crowd as they smashed in for another 3 points and the win!

The standings stay close but the Freeze now are in possession of first place in the division.

 

They’ll continue to hit the practice courts during the week in preparation for their next game. They want to continue to be a physical team and keep the good team play going. The Freeze are making some noise around town.

The team certainly feeds off their crowd!
