Frosty Hollow Freeze at Penn State Abington (June 13th)
On a hot and steamy day, the Frosty Hollow Freeze finished off their road swing as they headed to Abington, Pennsylvania to take on Penn State Abington and the lions. This was another instant classic with both crowds cheering for their perspective teams. This was unquestionably an electrifying match to be at with the crowds bringing the excitement and the players giving it their all on every point. The roars were loud but the lion ate the Frosty Hollow Freeze today winning by a score of 4-1. The Nittany Lions defended their home stadium today and took revenge against the Frosty Hollow Freeze. It was the Penn State crowd that said, "We Are! Penn State!"
The lineup that was put together today worked hard for every point and refused to throw in the sweaty towel from the heat. The Singles Positions were filled by Ian Blackman and Hakan Uluturk. The Doubles Positions were filled by Dave Kniaz and Ken Patterson, Bill Burger and John Sisti, and Lance Shaffer and Mark Shaffer.
There was a ton of excitement going into the match today because of where the teams are in the standings. All the courts were bringing the heat and passion.
Hakan Uluturk talked to the media before the match and talked about an injured toe. He played hard on his court and had long points with his opponent and brought a ton of drive to the match. It was a fun match to watch with good quality back-and-forth baseline action. Hakan Uluturk stated, "I need to practice more." Even though Hakan had a tough match on his court, it didn't stop him from cheering on his team after his court was done. A good team-player and that is what the Frosty Hollow Freeze are about!
Dave Kniaz and Ken Patterson had a good match on their court and worked hard for the team. It was a high-quality passionate match with a ton of action in front of the net. The players were dripping as they walked off the court. Both Dave Kniaz and Ken Patterson did not desire to comment about the game to the media. Ken Patterson responded, "Not now." It was a tiring match for the players.
On another Doubles court, Bill Burger and John Sisti had a long match with big serves and good net play. With the heat on the court, the players jumping around, and smashing serves and overheads, this was a fun court to watch. Both players declined to talk to the media when walking off the court. It was an exhausting match for the players.
Ian Blackman had a taxing match on his court. A full out 3-setter had Ian and his opponent working hard with controlling and powerful forehands. Ian gave everything for the team and did not want to give up. He pushed and pushed in this marathon match in the heat. When talking to the media, Ian Blackman entertainingly stated, "I deserved to lose because I am so overweight and out of shape." Even while laboring in the third set, Ian cheered on his fellow teammates between points. Ian is one of those players who would do anything for the team.
On another Doubles court, Lance Shaffer and Mark Shaffer had an entertaining match with their opponents. Before a court was available for Lance and Mark, they cheered on the team. Lance Shaffer and Mark Shaffer won their court. A ton of powerful net action with players sliding and giving it their all made this match electrifying. When talking to the media, Lance Shaffer said, "We knew we had to be at our best today, and we played with jam. It was a playoff environment and we really fed off the crowd." Mark Shaffer stated, "With the shots Lance hit, he took our opponents 'fight' away." This court did have a playoff vibe to it.
The Frosty Hollow Freeze's undefeated streak is history and are now 7-1 this season. The Frosty Hollow Freeze are about the "team atmosphere" and if any team could regroup after being defeated, it is this group. They need players to be fully team committed and root for one another and that is what this team has. This team has good camaraderie and they want to continue that passion down the home stretch here.
The Frosty Hollow Freeze are going to try to get back on the winning ways as they go head home and welcome the Pennsbury Ballbusters!
