Game Recap:
BCRC at Frosty Hollow Freeze (July 1st)
With the 2015 USTA season coming to a finish, the Frosty Hollow Freeze had a win-and-in scenario. With this win on the final day of the regular season, the Frosty Hollow Freeze would make the USTA playoffs. The Frosty Hollow Freeze welcomed a pesky team, 'BCRC' in an all-or-nothing match. The team BCRC tried to play the role of spoiler by aiming to knock the Frosty Hollow Freeze out of the playoffs.
On a humid night, team BCRC strolled into town to take on the Frosty Hollow Freeze. This was the biggest game for the Frosty Hollow Freeze as they were trying to make the playoffs for the first time since joining the 4.0 USTA League. The match began at 7:15 p.m under the bright lights at the stadium. The home crowd was energized with anticipation and the players were jumping around waiting to get started. This match was played with an edge. The playoff atmosphere was vibrating the hard maroon and green courts.
Dave Kniaz and Ken Patterson had an intense three setter on their court with the crowd yelling and screaming on many points. A ton of net action and explosive serving made this match interesting. Ken Patterson talked to the media after the match and stated, "We were outplayed." Dave Kniaz said, "No comment." Both players gave it their all and continued to cheer on the team after their match was played.
Ian Blackman had an exciting three setter with his opponent. Both players were punching the ball back and forth to win the points. Ian broke his strings and had to use teammate’s Ashish Patel's racquet. You could watch the sweat and fuzz flying off the ball with each swing in this full out, hard-hitting bout. With his featured look, one sock up and one sock down, Ian was pounding forehand winners. Between sets Ian is quoted as saying, “I'm beyond sucking, sucking is too nice. I lost the first set by alot and he won by alot." In a demanding 3rd set, both players were dragging on the court but still giving it their all for their teams. With fireworks in the background, fans going crazy, and players running around the court, this match was an entertaining one at the least. After the match, Ian stated, "My wrist is broken. I suck and can't serve. Rita's Water Ice was open at least so I could be a fat miserable piece of crap." He also added that his opponent was very nice and a super gentlemen. Ian gave it his all for his team.
On another Doubles court, Lance Shaffer and Mark Shaffer were bringing it. They won their court in two sets and scored for the team. With a ton of action in front of the net, Lance and Mark were smashing shots to win points. When talking to the media, Mark Shaffer said, “I think we played a solid and focused game. This was a playoff atmosphere." Lance Shaffer stated, "The home crowd was awesome and it's a ton of fun to play a big game in front of a loud crowd like that. I liked our game plan and kept the physicality at a high, which gave us success.”
There were some players from team BCRC that did not want to show up for two courts and that gave the Frosty Hollow Freeze two more scores.
