Game Recap:
Frosty Hollow Freeze at Mill Creek (June 6th)
On a humid and soggy day, the Frosty Hollow Freeze continued their road swing against Mill Creek. Mill Creek, which is near the Buck Hotel, had a somewhat of a relaxed setting and had a country-club vibe to it. In saying that, it didn't stop the always passionate Frosty Hollow Freeze crowd from cheering with excitement. This was a great match between two teams that worked hard for every point. The slow moving soft Har-Tru courts at Mill Creek made it a pleasurable match to watch with the players sliding sideline to sideline. The Frosty Hollow Freeze outdid Mill Creek today on their own turf and won by a score of 4-1.
The lineup put together today was exceptional. The Singles Positions were filled by Joey Sunga and Mike Bell. The Doubles Positions were filled by Dave Kniaz and Ken Patterson, Bob Hawley and John Sisti, and Lance Shaffer and Mark Shaffer.
The Doubles court with John Sisti and Bob Hawley was an interesting affair to watch. Bob Hawley was matched up against his nephew and there was a little fun family rivalry. Bob Hawley and John Sisti got the Frosty Hollow Freeze on the board first by winning their court. John Sisti stated, "We won the first set 6-2. Our opponents switched sides (forehand/backhand) and we quickly adjusted and then it was history. He then, amusingly said, "Bill Burger might need to find a Doubles partner." When walking off the court, Bob Hawley hilariously added, "Unbelievable.........................................................................................................." After the match, Bob Hawley and John Sisti were sharing food recipes.
Joey Sunga worked hard and won his Singles court in a 2 set bull-rush. He ran his opponent around all match while painting the corners. Joey Sunga said that he was playing for "Rafa" who is known as "The King of Clay." Rafa was knocked out of the French Open Tournament. Joey gave his best Rafa impression today at Mill Creek by sliding on the court.
On another Doubles court, the players were working hard. Lance Shaffer was smashed with a ball and from there, he and Mark Shaffer stepped up their games by winning the court and scoring for the team. Mark Shaffer stated, "Lance really turned it on after he was smacked with the ball." Lance Shaffer stated, "We played a good style but really brought the jam after the first few games in the first set. We had a game plan going into the match, and we did a good job of sticking to it." Lance Shaffer and Mark Shaffer were physical in front of the net and made it difficult on their opponents.
An energized match that ended with a 3rd set super tie-breaker had Dave Kniaz and Ken Patterson working. They were down 7-5 in the super-tie-break and made a miraculous come back to score for the team. Ken Patterson said, "We deserved to lose." Dave Kniaz said, "We sucked." He also added, "We played another human 'time-out' junior today."
Mike Bell played a good match against his rival and went the distance while going to a 3rd set super-tie-break. There was long points with both players working the baseline efficiently. When talking to the media, Mike Bell stated, "I wanted to go 3." The back and forth action in the 3rd set super-tie-break made this match exciting to watch.
