Game Recap:
Frosty Hollow Freeze at BCRC (May 23rd)
At the midway point on the 2015 USTA season this match was another instant classic. A fun memorial day weekend matinee match between the Frosty Hollow Freeze and BCRC met its expectations. It was an entertaining affair in a country setting. It was a cool windy day as the Frosty Hollow Freeze started their 4 game road-swing at BCRC. This match had a little of everything and the Frosty Hollow Freeze came out with a 3-2 win.
The Frosty Hollow Freeze entered their 4 game road-swing by putting out a lineup that worked hard on the friendly confine Har-Tru courts at historic Bucks County. The Singles Positions were filled by Serkan Uluturk and Joey Sunga. The Doubles Positions were filled by Dave Kniaz and Ken Patterson, Bill Burger and John Sisti, and Lance Shaffer and Mark Shaffer.
Bill Burger and John Sisti got the Frosty Hollow Freeze on the board by winning their court. Both being southpaws, they made it a difficult match for their opponents. When talking to the media, Bill Burger stated, "We're getting there." During the match, John would let Bill know, "We have been here before" and that seemed to be a big key to the outcome of the game.
On another Doubles court, Lance Shaffer and Mark Shaffer had a good match with their opponents. Lance Shaffer stated, "We were stuck in the mud and played too defensively. We let the other team dictate the points and couldn't do anything offensively. We need to be more physical and have a grinding mentality during the match. Our opponents outplayed us today and all the credit goes to them."
Joey Sunga ran his opponent around all match and won his court. Joey Sunga stated, "It was my first game this year. It was fun and very exciting. This is my second time playing on clay and I'm starting to like it. The guy I played was good at the net and at serving."
On another Singles court, Serkan Uluturk had a long 3 set bout with his opponent. Serkan Uluturk said, "I choked in the first set. I sucked, I don't really know what else to say. The first two sets I was up but I lost it." Both players hit good shots and it was a fun court to watch.
With possibly the longest match of the day, Dave Kniaz and Ken Patterson were giving it their all to produce for the team. With the match tight in a grueling third set, Ken Patterson left his feet with a full out diving forehand volley. With the dust from the court swirling, Dave Kniaz came out of nowhere to put the ball away. The Frosty Hollow Freeze crowd on hand gave a big roar and the dogs in the background were barking and cheering with each point. Dave Kniaz and Ken Patterson came through and won it for the Frosty Hollow Freeze. Ken Patterson stated, "I'm glad it mattered." Dave Kniaz commented, "Somehow we find a way to win. We were down 3-5 in the third set and we turned it around." A mix of good baseline and net play helped the Frosty Hollow Freeze come out with a victory.
The Frosty Hollow Freeze are off to a good start on the road and are now 5-0 this season. Even on the road, the Frosty Hollow Freeze crowd outdid the home crowd!
The Frosty Hollow Freeze continue their road-swing as they take on the BCRC Pirates next week!
