Penn State Abington vs. Frosty Hollow Freeze (July 12th)
On championship Sunday of the USTA Playoffs at the Philadelphia Area District Championships, the Frosty Hollow Freeze were taking on Penn State Abington. Team Easy Killer were taking on the Philly Phighters. There was a fun vibe of excitement for great tennis to be played. After all the matches were played, the team with the most points would be crowned Champion in the Philadelphia Area District Championships and have the opportunity to go to Nationals in attractive California.
A big crowd was on hand and there was a ton of emotion on the court and in the stands. Penn State Abington showed up big today and beat the Frosty Hollow Freeze by a score of 4-1. Team Easy Killer knocked off the Philly Phighters today, and also had the most points in these playoffs, which made them USTA Philadelphia District 4.0 Men's Champions. The Frosty Hollow Freeze went 1-2 in the playoffs and that was not good enough to make it out of Districts. A congratulations to the Frosty Hollow Freeze for an amazing season and a fine playoff run. A great group with a winning mentality could be said about the Frosty Hollow Freeze.
The Frosty Hollow Freeze playoff lineup that was put together today had a tough duty against the Penn State squad. In the regular season, the Frosty Hollow Freeze had two matches against Penn State, which they split victories. In today's playoff match, Ian Blackman and Serkan Uluturk played the Singles Positions and the Doubles Positions were filled by, Bill Burger and John Sisti, Mike Bell and Mark Patton, and Bob Hawley and Lance Shaffer. Everyone worked hard and the fans cheered with enthusiasm.
Bob Hawley and Lance Shaffer were teamed up for Doubles today and they succeeded and won their court. They hunted their opponents in a 2 set route. After the match, Bob Hawley was eating a banana and stated, "Uneventful." He then took another bite of his banana and stated, "Almost unfair and thankfully I'm not playing Singles anymore." On a hot day, a ton of running around on the courts could wear you out. Lance Shaffer talked with the media and said, "We played a good match." They played a solid Doubles match.
Mike Bell and Mark Patton had a tough match on their court. There was a ton of net play with booming serves. During the match, Mark Shaffer got a court violation warning for 'coaching' and Mark Patton got a court violation warning for saying the word s**t. The USTA rules are very strict. Mark Patton spoke with the media about his opponents and stated, "They were just too good. When I tried to push, I was making mistakes. I pushed and Mike started pushing. We couldn't get going and it sucks. They were good." Both Mike and Mark gave a great effort and did everything they could for the team and played a solid Doubles game.
Bill Burger and John Sisti were teamed up as a Doubles pair. They are known as 'The Lefties' and both work together nicely. Bill guards the net while John hits authoritative forehands from the baseline. When talking to the media, John said, "Took too long to get into a rhythm and when we got it under control, it was too late." Bill simply commented, "They are just better than us. Let's go watch Wimbledon."
Ian Blackman had one of his toughest matches today. It was his 3rd day in a row playing a playoff Singles match in the heat. He pushed and pushed and didn't give up. Ian is a player that would do anything for his team. He is a team-first kind of guy and wants everyone to have success. Ian commented after the match and said, "I was only up 5 games in the first set because he was warming up." Ian gave everything he had for the team today.
Serkan Uluturk had a good match on his court against a feisty opponent. Serkan hit a ton of hard baseline shots and kept his opponent thinking. Serkan gave everything he had for the team. He played a good Singles match.
The Frosty Hollow Freeze USTA 2015 Season/Playoffs is finished. They had an excellent season. They went 9-1 in the regular season and made the USTA Philadelphia District Playoffs where they won a match. The talent was very good in the playoffs.
