Opening Day 2018!

            The setting was Bucks County Racquet Club (outdoors on gray-wet-dried-soggy Har-Tru Courts).  It was a 12:00 matinee for a USTA Opening Day party.  It was a striking day for tennis where we had the Frosty Hollow Freeze and the BCRC Slammers.  A fine crowd on hand had this game amped and charged.  The Freeze were laced in their brand new eagle green unis. 

           

            The Freeze were booed as they walked onto the practice courts and the hometown audience even ridiculed some of the players. However, no fisticuffs were exchanged during play.  Also, ”Frenchman" Flavien, was involved in chasing down balls that were struck out of play and was bringing energy in the stands which the players fed off of.

            The game featured a little bit of everything; even almost a streaking fan on the court that interrupted Hawley and Blackman's play.  McGowan put up 5 points for the team with a good Singles court win while Blackman and Hawley teamed up together to smash in 6 points.  When the overall final score was announced, it was greeted with neutral cheers.  We have an Opening Day tie!  The score was 11-11 and both teams walked off with wanting more.  One of best parts of Opening Day was the atmosphere of all the players working together and backing each other.

 

            The Freeze had a good Opening Day and they now hit the practice courts during the week to prepare for their Home Opener on Saturday where they are going to have the new unis featured in front of the home fans.  The Freeze are expecting to have a big crowd on hand for the Home Opener.  The tickets at courtside could be filling up so get to the courts on time ready to get loud!
