BCRC at Frosty Hollow Freeze: June 18th
A hot and humid afternoon was the setting for this tennis matchup between BCRC and the Frosty Hollow Freeze. BCRC rolled into town and the Freeze were glad to be hosts. The hot weather had the players and courts soaked with sweat. The Freeze were in their white uniforms and the water and Gatorade bottles were dripping from the heat. Both teams pushing hard made this game an exciting outing. Batman and Superman would have enjoyed this one with the action today. BCRC ended the Freeze's three game winning streak by jabbing them for a 4-1 victory. The game was closer then the score showed and really was up for grabs all afternoon.
The Frosty Hollow Freeze put out a lineup that was ready to compete. The Singles positions were held by Ian Blackman and Mike Bell. The Doubles positions were held by Bill Burger and Dave Kniaz, Ashish Patel and Eric Ulzinow, and Lance Shaffer and Mark Shaffer.
On steamy hot days, it's easy to get winded pretty quick. Both Blackman and Bell provided good Singles action on their courts and gave the fans a reason why they purchased a ticket. After Blackman was finished on his court he commented, "I told you I was in trouble. Kill me. I had no chance today. I was awake from Wednesday, 5:00 a.m until nearly 4:00 a.m on Friday." Bell had a long three setter that went deep into the afternoon where smashing shots were struck.
Bill Burger and Dave Kniaz worked hard for the team and played a solid Doubles match. A ball was hit out of play and the opponents went hunting in the forest with a racquet in anger.
Lance Shaffer and Mark Shaffer were gearing up for a third set on their court and a fresh new pack of tennis balls were opened. With many long and draining points, the players were drenched with sweat. The players were solid and ran hard in the hot temps. A ton of speed on this court made for a thrilling ride.
Ashish Patel and Eric Ulzinow had an interesting match on their court. It seemed like the slogan for the day was, 'Game balls for sale'. All the Doubles courts needed more game balls today. It really didn't matter much to D pair, Patel and Ulzinow because they won their court in a fine way. Patel called his opponents 'Tennis Divas' and rightfully so. After the match, Patel spoke with the media and said, "Good match and for once, I feel like I played a good game. This ends my 2016 season." It's pretty easy to say that Patel and Ulzinow hit the ball hard. Ashish held up a ball that was split down the middle and said, "This describes our game. Beating up the ball." It was smooth sailing for these guys and Ulzinow stated, "I look good in white." Both players worked great together.
All in all the Freeze gave a great effort today but have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. However, the Freeze have an opportunity to play the role of spoiler in their 2016 regular season finale on Saturday as they take a road trip to take on the Slammers. The Slammers are in first place trying to secure a playoff bid. The Freeze have had a run in with the Slammers previously, so the Freeze would love to win in their finale. The Freeze are also trying to reach .500 to finish out the year and this should be dandy. This is projected to be a physical game with a ton of excitement.
The Freeze are going to be in their gray uniforms. Freeze player, Ian Blackman, wants everyone to do breakfast/lunch after the game. The Freeze want fans to come out and cheer the Freeze to a victory and then also have a bite to eat afterwards. The 2016 regular season Finale is set!
Hey, Go Freeze Go!
